OpenAI Codex at a glance (Oct 16, 2026)
- Codex is included in ChatGPT Free, Go ($8/month), Plus ($20/month) and Pro ($100, $200 or $500/month), and shares usage with ChatGPT Work.
- On Plus, OpenAI estimates 15–160 local GPT-6.1 Sol messages per five hours, or 5–45 with GPT-6 Astra. Weekly limits may also apply.
- Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit.
- Ultrafast mode is included only on Pro 500.
- From Oct 30, 2026, Pro 200 includes 10x the Plus allowance in Work and Codex, down from 20x. Subscribers grandfathered in keep the old allowance through Oct 29.
- Past the limit, Plus and Pro users can buy ChatGPT credits, or run local chats with an API key at API rates.

How limits reset
Plus and Standard Business have a 5-hour usage window, and weekly limits may apply. Pro plans currently have no 5-hour limit. OpenAI publishes ranges per model, not fixed counts. Check the usage dashboard or run /status in the CLI.

Included Work and Codex usage on the $200 Pro plan falls from 20x to 10x the Plus allowance. GPT-6 Pro chat messages fall from 200 to 100 a week. Subscribers grandfathered in keep the old allowance through Oct 29.

Pro 500 ($500/month) adds Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex. Pro 200 reopened to new subscribers with a lower allowance. Pro 100 stays at $100. Announced at DevDay 2026.
